Brigid of Kildare

Hail to Brigid

Prayer to St. Brigid

patron saint of smithcraft, poetry, and healing.

Brigid
You were a woman of peace.
You brought harmony where there was conflict.
You brought light to the darkness.
You brought hope to the downcast.
May the mantle of your peace cover those who are troubled and anxious,
and may peace be firmly rooted in our hearts and in our world.
Inspire us to act justly and to reverence all God has made.
Brigid you were a voice for the wounded and the weary.
Strengthen what is weak within us.
Calm us into a quietness that heals and listens.
May we grow each day into greater wholeness in mind, body and spirit.
Amen

Prayer as you're lighting a candle:

Brigid defend me, Michael defend me, Mary defend me, by land and by sea. Amen

Tip Bits and Tidbits

Posted on Feb 4th, 2009 by Samme : Prince of Rainbows<3 Samme
I would love to share this important tip based on my experience.  Something to keep in mind for Windows users.  If you choose to put a password when you log on to your computer whether laptop or PC desktop, please make sure that you remember the old password when you decide to change it for a new password for security reasons.  This is because when your computer crash and you do a "System Restore", your computer will go back to the last "stable state" of your computer.  So when you log on you might still use the new password but oftentimes it will be the password prior to the current one.

Reminder for Firefox browser users, it should be automatic but there is a new upgrade to the browser.

I cannot believe that the "Google Web Accelerator" for Firefox browser is always not compatible with the latest version of Firefox.  I wonder why Google can't keep up with Firefox?  So rejoice Internet Explorer browser users, you can use the Google Web Accelerator.  When you download it, it will make your surfing faster on the ones that you visit often, i.e. Gaia and others.  When you visit a site Google will keep it in their cache so it will make your HTTP requests faster.

Feel free to add other tips and tidbits here for others to read.  Yes you may share this.  : )

Thank you,

Samme

Here are are a few examples, if you like them [CLICK HERE] to get them delivered to your inbox. As they are written.

‘perpetual summertime’

A man lived perpetually in the summer time of his own life. He lit up the world that surrounded him. Unannounced. And unintentional.

Some who met him would wonder where the light came from.

And of those who wondered, some would realise that it had nothing to do with the outward circumstances of his life.

And of those who realised, some would recognise that the very same light waited for the chance to shine from deep inside themselves.

And for the brave who’d let it shine. It would.

‘the inch & the mile’

A woman lived a busy life.

A life full of the events we presume to be important.

A life a mile wide.

But a life an inch deep.

And in a small house on the other side of the same town, another woman of a similar age lived a simple life.

A life full of the routine we presume we must escape.

A life an inch wide.

But a life a mile deep.

‘in the pursuit of happiness’

She’d sat in the pursuit of happiness.

For as long as her memory could reach back.

For most of her life.

She’d assumed that to be happy was the point.

But now, in the evening of her long life, and for the very first time she wondered what happiness was. And why its need had consumed her.

For the happiness she‘d chased for so many years had risen and fallen with the circumstance & events of her life. It had been conditional on the world that surrounded her.

And now she wondered.

And it took her breath away.

‘the tree of dreams’

Many had gathered under the tree of dreams.

All but one stood shaking its branches for dreams to fall.

Dreams that had been whispered to them by the voices of others.

Dreams that would fade with time.

But one sat quietly, waiting for a dream to recognise his soul.

And to consume him with no doubt.

FEBRUARY IS BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Posted on Feb 6th, 2009 by Samme : Prince of Rainbows<3 Samme
black history month

Black History Month is a remembrance of important people and events in the history of the African diaspora. It is celebrated annually in most countries worldwide in the month of February, while in the UK it is held in the month of October.

Although I celebrate Black History throughout the year, I still believe that a month designated for black history is to be honored, observed and celebrated.  Black history is American history and in the history of all nations.  We are one.

Leontyne Price, acclaimed opera singer sings Lift Every Voice and Sing

Black History Month

Learn about the past

to create a better future

What African-American has made the biggest impact on your life and why? What is the most significant historical contribution of African-Americans? And what does Black History Month mean to you?

For me the American that has the made the biggest impact in my life is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. because he echoes the nonviolent struggle for change like Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.  I believe in my own humble opinion that the most significant historical contributions of African-Americans is their soul, strength, courage, wisdom and resilience.  What Black History means to me is that it is necessary for all people in this world to stop at least for a moment, look at their surroundings and inside their hearts and listen.  When we listen to our hearts we will lift every voice and sing.

A Challenge For Haiku Poets To Write 1,000 Haiku

Posted on Feb 8th, 2009 by Samme : Prince of Rainbows<3 Samme
You write haiku and you post them everywhere.  Here's how to keep track of your haiku and also a challenge to write 1,000 haiku.  Join the Gaia Booklovers Group and create your own thread in the "Samme's Haiku Project Challenge" and you and only you can post on that thread of your haiku.  By entering one haiku for each post the count number will let you know if you are closing in on one thousand.  And you can easily go back to your thread as now there is a new feature on the left side widget of every group down at the bottom click on "I liked" under Discussions and you will be able to go back easily to your own thread and add your haiku.  This is a good way to keep track of your haiku creations by copying and pasting from other sites to your own thread.  There are other active haiku poets posting such as Naumadd, myself and Jen.  I advise that you create a new thread with your name, for example, "Your name's" Haiku.   I have also recently started the group over at Facebook called A Million Poets Writing A Thousand Haiku.  See you there and keep writing poetry.

Thank you,
Samme

CHILDREN TRANSFORMED THROUGH MUSIC: JOSE ANTONIO ABREU

Posted on Feb 19th, 2009 by Samme : Prince of Rainbows<3 Samme
Slide26

Jose Antonio Abreu founded El Sistema ("the system") in 1975 to help poor Venezuelan kids learn to play a musical instrument and be part of an orchestra. 30 years on, El Sistema has seeded 102 youth orchestras -- and many happy lives.

Why you should listen to him:

The gulf between the rich and the poor in Venezuela is one of the worst in the world. Jose Antonio Abreu, an economist, musician, and reformer, founded El Sistema ("the system") in 1975 to help Venezuelan kids take part in classical music. After 30 years (and 10 political administrations), El Sistema is a nationwide organization of 102 youth orchestras, 55 children's orchestras, and 270 music centers -- and close to 250,000 young musicians.

El Sistema uses music education to help kids from impoverished circumstances achieve their full potential and learn values that favor their growth. The talented musicians have become a source of national pride. Several El Sistema students have gone on to major international careers, including Gustavo Dudamel, soon to be the music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the bassist Edicson Ruiz, who at 17 became the youngest musician ever to join the Berlin Philharmonic.

There is a simple concept behind Abreu's work: for him an orchestra is first and foremost about togetherness, a place where children learn to listen to each other and to respect one another.

"Music has to be recognized as an ... agent of social development in the highest sense, because it transmits the highest values -- solidarity, harmony, mutual compassion. And it has the ability to unite an entire community and to express sublime feelings."
José Antonio Abreu

Gustavo Dudamel and the Teresa Carreño Youth Orchestra: Ensemble

The Teresa Carreño Youth Orchestra is the national high-school-age youth orchestra of El Sistema, made up of the best young musicians from throughout Venezuela. Gustavo Dudamel, himself a product of El Sistema, is the new musical director of the LA Philharmonic.

Why you should listen to them:

The Teresa Carreño Youth Orchestra (Sinfónica Juvenil Teresa Carreño) is the national high school age youth orchestra of El Sistema, Venezuela's groundbreaking, life-changing musical education program. To put this ensemble's musicianship in context, the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela is the next step for many of these young musicians. That orchestra, containing musicians from 18 to 28 years old, has toured the world with conductor Gustavo Dudamel and has made a number of recordings on Deutsche Grammophon. The Teresa Carreño Youth Orchestra is the next level below, and will succeed the Simón Bolívar.

Their conductor in this TEDTalk is Gustavo Dudamel, himself a product of the El Sistema. Dudamel conducted the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela for several years, and recently was named the Los Angeles Philharmonic's music director. He also continues to conduct other orchestras around the world.

The orchestra's namesake, Teresa Carreño, was a legendary Venezuelan pianist after whom the main theater/concert hall complex in Caracas is also named.

The Teresa Carreño Youth Orchestra contains the best high school musicians from Venezuela's life-changing music program, El Sistema. Led here by Gustavo Dudamel, they play Shostakovich's Symphony No. 10, 2nd movement, and Arturo Márquez' Danzón No. 2.

HUGE GAMMA-RAY BLAST DETECTED 12.2 B LIGHT YEARS FROM EARTH

Posted on Feb 22nd, 2009 by Samme : Prince of Rainbows<3 Samme
http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/world/images/attachement/jpg/site1/20090221/0013729e42ea0b098e6152.jpg

After all the star-studded Oscar's night, I bring you this huge news in astronomy.  We all know that the billions of galaxies are chaotic and there's always something happening.  But this is the first time in modern times that we are able to detect this,

WASHINGTON (AFP) – The US space agency's Fermi telescope has detected a massive explosion in space which scientists say is the biggest gamma-ray burst ever detected, a report published Thursday in Science Express said.

The spectacular blast, which occurred in September in the Carina constellation, produced energies ranging from 3,000 to more than five billion times that of visible light, astrophysicists said.

"Visible light has an energy range of between two and three electron volts and these were in the millions to billions of electron volts," astrophysicist Frank Reddy of US space agency NASA told AFP.

"If you think about it in terms of energy, X-rays are more energetic because they penetrate matter. These things don't stop for anything -- they just bore through and that's why we can see them from enormous distances," Reddy said.

A team led by Jochen Greiner of Germany's Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics determined that the huge gamma-ray burst occurred 12.2 billion light years away.

The sun is eight light minutes from Earth, and Pluto is 12 light hours away.

Taking into account the huge distance from earth of the burst, scientists worked out that the blast was stronger than 9,000 supernovae -- powerful explosions that occur at the end of a star's lifetime -- and that the gas jets emitting the initial gamma rays moved at nearly the speed of light.

"This burst's tremendous power and speed make it the most extreme recorded to date," a statement issued by the US Department of Energy said.

Gamma-ray bursts are the universe's most luminous explosions, which astronomers believe occur when massive stars run out of nuclear fuel and collapse.

Long bursts, which last more than two seconds, occur in massive stars that are undergoing collapse, while short bursts lasting less than two seconds occur in smaller stars.

In short gamma-ray bursts, stars simply explode and form supernovae, but in long bursts, the enormous bulk of the star leads its core to collapse and form a blackhole, into which the rest of the star falls.

As the star's core collapses into the black hole, jets of material blast outward, boring through the collapsing star and continuing into space where they interact with gas previously shed by the star, generating bright afterglows that fade with time.

"It's thought that something involved in spinning up and collapsing into that blackhole in the center is what drives these jets. No one really has figured that out. The jets rip through the star and the supernova follows after the jets," Reddy said.

Studying gamma-ray bursts allows scientists to "sample an individual star at a distance where we can't even see galaxies clearly," Reddy said.

Observing the massive explosions could also lift the veil on more of space's enigmas, including those raised by the burst spotted by Fermi, such as a "curious time delay" between its highest and lowest energy emissions.

Such a time lag has been seen in only one earlier burst, and "may mean that the highest-energy emissions are coming from different parts of the jet or created through a different mechanism," said Stanford University physicist Peter Michelson, the chief investigator on Fermi's large area telescope.

"Burst emissions at these energies are still poorly understood, and Fermi is giving us the tools to understand them. In a few years, we'll have a fairly good sample of bursts and may have some answers," Michelson said.

The Fermi telescope and NASA's Swift satellite detect "in the order of 1,000 gamma-ray bursts a year, or a burst every 100,000 years in a given galaxy," said Reddy.

Astrophysicists estimate there are hundreds of billions of galaxies.

The Fermi gamma-ray space telescope was developed by NASA in collaboration with the US Department of Energy and partners including academic institutions in France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Sweden and the United States.

What does this mean???

IMHO this will bring light (enlightenment) to this era.  It is so fitting that this happens after we had just entered the Age of Aquarius.  Yes I know this blast happened billions of years ago and it just reach us, and indeed it reached us in an auspicious time!!!  I am imagining particles from this dust will reach our own galaxy and will pass by earth and I am imagining that it will bring some new senses and dimensions.  I am not an expert just a wishful thinker.  : )

Sitting on the right side is the Oscar winning playwright Dustin Lance Black who won for Best Original Screenplay.  (my photo taken on June 08 at the San Francisco Gay Pride Parade).

IMG_0624 by you.

Because I could not find a live streaming of the Oscars telecast online, my television was turned on after twelve years of not being used.  It is going to be donated.  In the meantime before it goes, it showed me a wonderful moment when I watched the Oscars and most especially Sean Penn winning Best Actor for his portrayal of Harvey Milk in the movie MILK.  I love to share these with you.

Please watch and listen to Sean Penn's speech.

Also please watch this the acceptance speech by Dustin Lance Black which won for Best Original Screenplay.

Dustin Lance Black Oscar Acceptance - Gay Marriage

"I think it is a good time for those who voted for the ban against gay marriage to sit and reflect, and anticipate their great shame and the shame in their grandchildren’s eyes if they continue that way of support. We’ve got to have equal rights for everyone."

~ Sean Penn

May we all live our lives openly for who we are and love.

Gay activists are thrilled over Sean Penn's win for Best Actor for his moving portrayal of slain San Francisco board of supervisor Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in California.

"The Best Actor win for Sean Penn is so richly deserved," said Neil G. Giuliano, President of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation in an exclusive statement to RadarOnline.com.

"His groundbreaking performance gave audiences the opportunity to
get to know Harvey Milk's conviction, passion and the indelible
influence he had on the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender movement
and community."

Giuliano added: "His speech, like the film itself, brought awareness
to the opposition our movement continues to face in our pursuit of
equality."  [ read more ]

ARTS, ARTISTS & MASHUPS: HOW COLLABORATIONS CAN CHANGE THE WORLD

Posted on Feb 25th, 2009 by Samme : Prince of Rainbows<3 Samme
I am a movie lover and a music lover and an art lover, any kind of art.  But I am not a critic.  I cannot be a movie critic nor a music critic or an art critic because I respect people's artistic and professional creations, their personal life is besides the point.  Michelangelo has a saying that I like, "Criticize by creating".  If there is a song, movie or piece of art I do not like I will not just say anything about it and will not go to great lengths to lashed out the artist.  I love all kinds of movies.  For music there are some I do not like but I have a wide range of taste in music.  And I love most artistic creations.  So what I am saying is if I have a movie column or a music column my article will always be that I like the movie or the music.

IMHO, if we are artists we should love life and the world.  Embrace all!  Of course we all do, some would say but what I mean is that we should be open to all kinds of art forms and possibilities.  Appreciation and tolerance is the key.  Like for example Flea of the hard rock group Guns & Roses.  He may not like Michael Jackson or his music but he was hired by Michael Jackson to play guitar with him.  Nowadays there are all sorts of "marriages" happening between and among the arts.  Two or three genres are being mix to create a new creation and the artists that you would never thought of would collaborate are coming together.  Of course this is nothing new but it is becoming much more mainstream and that the each time there is a new collaboration, it is always fresh and very interesting.

I think we can take that metaphor or that notion into real life and come together, be one and be in harmony with one another.  Set aside the differences and hold off the criticisms.  Let us be constructive and proactive and seek new boundaries not just our own circle.  We will find it to be enriching.  Art is a universal language.  Music is a universal language.  Love is the universal language of the heart and soul.

AGE OF AQUARIUS

Posted on Feb 25th, 2009 by Samme : Prince of Rainbows<3 Samme
"Aquarius follows and is the evolutionary response to Capricorn, just as Capricorn's planet, Saturn, is followed by Uranus, Aquarius' planet. Until 1760, humanity couldn't see beyond Saturn which represented the boundary of our reality. Once Uranus was discovered, once it came into our consciousness, we immediately experienced the age of revolution, the urge for freedom and the birth of our nation. Now, we're moving toward that Aquarian Age and just yesterday had SIX planets transiting that sign. So, here we are, me with my Aquarius midheaven and Mercury and Samme with his Aquarius Sun, expanding peoples' boxes, helping people go beyond their seeming limits of thought.

Capricorn and Saturn represent TIME and the limits of duality, and in that way death. Aquarius and Uranus represent breaking FREE of Saturn's limitations and would include breaking free of TIME...and possibly death! In fact, I've felt that lightning is THE best metaphor for Aquarius which is the water BEARER. It's the atmospheric disturbance, the lightning that presages the water. And, in astrology, Aquarius, the final air sign, is followed Pisces, the final water and the final SIGN. Pisces is about transcendence and in order for that to occur, we must detach (Aquarius) from our dualistic constructs, we must "Go beyond".

~ Meho M.

Folks and friends, this is it!!!  We need trumpets!  This is the Age Of Aquarius.  We are on the Age of Aquarius!!!

but it is the lightning that does the work."
