It's Just Me

This is just me. When a person here in Gaia uses a screenname, which is not their real name, I address them or refer to them with that screenname. If they use that screenname in their profile or to sign off with their blog posts or pod posts or comments, I will use that screenname to refer to them even if I know their real name. Just as long as I have never seen the person wrote their own real name publicly online, I would never refer to them with their real name. On personal email I use their real name. If they have a screenname and they have put their real name publicly online, then I would interchangeably use both online.

Help

Lovely video. Awww…”Please call me by my true names, so that I can wake up.” =)
Etiquette-wise I'm the same way =)
Thank you Ariela. I love this poem and I hesitated and wondered if I will be able to find it on Youtube. I will not be surprised anymore what I can find on Youtube. Namaste.

LOL.
Have you tried searching your favorite childhood tv programs yet? LOL. :-D
Ahhhh….I missed the Smurfs :-D LOL LOL LOL
la la la la la la…
It was so beautiful and gave me tears… thank you Samme :)
Lili, and this is my name :)
That is a great poem. I'd never seen it before. Thanks for sharing.
As for what name to call people, I tend to call people whatever they call themselves. Otherwise, I'll just go by their username unless other people are calling them by some other specific name.
I go by Marmalade because that is who I am when online. Its the same username I have on all the different communities I belong to. But it really doesn't matter what anyone calls me. I'm Marmalade and I'm Ben… and, heck, I'm the sea pirate too.

i'm much like the rest of you in terms of net-iquette… for those closest to me, i tend to use your real name most when we are at “home” on your blog or mine or in personal emails, sometimes when i'm feeling warm and close to you in one of our pods too…
names can mean so much. I used to call B.B. by her nickname until one day she said in one of her blogs that she really wished people would call her Bridget. I think all of us who read that blog have called her only Bridget ever since…
sometimes people feel safer under a nickname… that's ok
thanks for this, Samme! big hugs
How wonderful!
1st I tired writing the words down but the screen scrolled too fast
then i found it on the Internet:
Please Call Me By My True Name
Thich Nhat Hanh
Do not say I depart tomorrow,
for even today I still arrive.
Look deeply: I arrive in every moment,
to be a bud on a branch,
to be a tiny bird with wings still fragile,
learning to sing in my new nest,
to be a caterpillar in the hearth of a flower,
to be jewel hiding itself in a stone.
I still arrive in order to laugh and to cry
in order to fear and to hope.
the rhythm of my heart is the birth and
death of all that are alive.
I am the may fly metamorphosing
on the surface of a river,
and I am the bird, which when spring comes,
arrives in time to eat the mayfly.
I am the frog, swimming happily
in the clear waters of my pond,
and I am the grass-snake who,
approaching in silence,
feeds itself on the frog.
I am the child in Uganda, all skin and bones,
my legs as thin as bamboo sticks,
and I am the arms merchant, selling deadly
weapons to Uganda.
I am the 12 year old girl, refugee on a small boat,
who throws herself into the ocean
after being raped by a sea pirate,
and I am the pirate, my heart not yet capable
of seeing and and loving.
I am a member of the politburo
with plenty of power in my hands,
and I am the man who has to pay his
“debt of blood” to my people,
dying slowly in a forced labor camp.
My joy is like spring so warm it makes
flowers bloom in all walks of life.
My pain like a river of tears, so full it
fills up the four oceans.
Please call me by my true names,
so I can hear all my cries and my laughs at once,
So that I can see that my joy and my pain are one.
Please call me by my true names,
so I can wake up,
that so the doors of my heart can be left open,
the doors of compassion.
much love
HummingBird, etc
PS names - interesting
I have been given a number of names
Anuradha was given to me by Yogi monks from Orange Farm here in SA
HummingBird is my power animal
A numerologist told me that my highest potential is joy.I enjoy these reminders of my potential
and hope to realise this in this lifetime
So beautiful! Thanks Samme for the video and Anna for the easy-to-copy and paste version. Hugs and blessings to you both! You can call me Mila or Armila and I will wake up and the doors of my heart will open!
