I Am Researching On How Easy It Is For Kids To Access Porn Sites

Dear Gaia Members and friends:

I am researching on how easy it is for kids under 18 years of age to access adult porn sites and erotica.  I need personal stories of discovery by parents that their kids were able to access sites inappropriate for people under 18 years of age even with software that blocks these sites.  How did you found out that your kids have accessed such sites?  How often?  What did you tell them and what happened?  This is going to be treated confidential.  These stories are needed for a public policy that I would like to research and write and present to my U.S. Senator for child advocacy on how we can protect our kids from materials unsuitable for their age.
I have a working proposal and ideas.
I need personal family stories to make my presentations effective.

Even with softwares blocking these sites and parental controls, kids are still able to access porn sites.  A simple search on any search engine will yield results to links that are unsuitable to minors.  I am for free speech and freedom of expressions but we must be able to make porn sites inaccessible to children and that is not the state of the internet right now.  Your story contributions will shape local, national and international policy on these issues.

Do not write your stories here in this blog comment.  Email me and ask me for my outside email address and I will furnish it to you and you can email me from there your story.

Thank you,

Samme

I have a quick story, Samme…(send me your email)

And I DO want to say that part (most?) of the problem is that children doing Real research on say….George Bush…will be taken to porn sites because of false Tagging.

Thank you Ariela, just sent you my email address.

Yes, these testimonies will be effective to convince Congress to shape some measures and restrictions for children users of the internet.  And let me just reiterate that even just casual surfing, how many times have they encountered adult porn sites that you know of?  This is in no way an abolition of the porn industry but I have an idea that if presented in time might catch on and will safeguard the children.
thank you,
Samme

I was horrified to find out if you type whitehouse.com instead of gov, you end up in a filthy place.  Another awful mistake is when looking for the American Girl site.  Congress really should shut those sites down.  I don't like the idea that my daughters could innocently stumble into such filthy and demeaning sites.

Keep up the great work, Samme!
Hugs!

Thank you Susan!  With all your personal stories and testimonies I am empowered and convinced that my idea will be an easy one to implement by the government thus protecting not just this country but the whole world, world wide web.  Well there will be a long time of backlash if they shut them down (free speech and freedom of expression). My idea is simple enough that it will be inaccessible by kids but can be accessed by adults who choose to view such materials.  But thank you again Susan, that little piece of information is powerful to change the tide.
blessings,
Samme

What happened to the .xxx suffix these sites were supposed to have?

Another thing I don't like is how these porn sites advertise on innocent sites, placing racy images on the page. (For example, an online movie site I frequent, I have to scroll down to hide the bare-butts and boobs from the kids' eyes)

Great Public Service, Samme! =)

All these info and comments are contributing in making me make changes and add more changes and ideas to my proposal and working paper.  It's going to be a tough battle but I would like to take a chance on it.
Thanks for your support Ariela,
Samme

P.S.  Once again for everybody this is about the kids and not about adults.  : )

Thank you for that input Ariela.  No, no comments will be deleted.  My 'big picture' concern for this are the 'nude images' and erotica that are appropriate for adults (if they choose to view so) and I am concerned that if I find it easy for me to see those, what more for the kids??  My concern for this is for children to be accidentally subjected to pictures that they are not suppose to see “yet”.  Sure parents can dialog with their kids about sexual issues but lots of times we never know what the kids are looking at and they 'grow beyond their years'.  Back then when I was young (no internet yet) nobody guided me or taught me and I was told to shut up.   I also have this experience and it has affected me into adult years and my family do not understand why I am distant at times, but that is another blog or another issue.  So that is why I am taking this on as one of my personal vision quests.
