ENLIGHTENED ONE
Someone desires riches
Another one desires gold
Still another wants to rule the world
Everybody wants to,
I am told.
I've been wandering far and wide
Ever since I was a child
Been to many places
Seen a lot of sad faces
Moving faster, going nowhere
Got to get out of this rat race forever.
Enlightened one, enlightened one
I want to be an enlightened one
Won't you tell me where love has gone?
'Cause I want to be an enlightened one.
My heart and soul is breaking
My body is not getting
For the world to change
I must not stop believing
Change must come from within
Love is what we should be giving.
In silence I found happiness
Meditating on nothing and emptiness
This mundane world I must transcend
Meditation is pure bliss
With patience do not miss
One day you will feel the goddess' kiss.
Enlightened one, enlightened one
I want to be an enlightened one
Won't you tell me where God has gone?
'Cause I want to be an enlightened one.
I want to be a bodhisattva
To help all souls in samsara
I seek refuge in the Buddha, dharma, sangha
To end all bad karma
So we will all attain nirvana.
I vow to learn the dharma
The four noble truths and six paramita
I want to serve with compassion
Throughout the ten directions
I am detached and makes no distinctions.
Enlightened one, enlightened one
I want to be like Jesus and Buddha as one
Not just for my sake but for each and everyone
That's why I want to be an enlightened one.

My inspiration for this poem is the song Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd. I thought that I just don't want to be just a simple man but to aspire to be an enlightened one so as to benefit all sentient beings. I wish this could be a song, well I guess it already is it is just a matter of time. I would like Sting, Bono, or Rufus Wainwright to sing it. Thank you,
