Come Nearer, Horizon!

I remember when I was three years old and my father came home from Vietnam because my mother died. We were at the beach facing the horizon.
"Dad, where did mom go?" I asked sobbing.
"She went to heaven."
"Just like that ship?"
"No, that ship is not going to heaven."
"But it is heading towards heaven. I want to go there too."
"That is called the horizon."
"What is a horizon?" I asked.
"A horizon is the point where the earth and the sky appear to meet. It is only an illusion."
"Dad, the ship sinks."
"It did not sink. It just went further away that your eyes cannot see anymore. That is the reason why the earth is round."
"Did it go to America?"
"Yes, I believe so."
"Is that where you are going?"
"Yes, I have to have an eye operation so I can see again."
"I don't want you to leave me here."
"Don't you want me to see you? I have not seen you ever since you were born."
"I lost mom and I don't want to lose you too. I am glad you came back from the war. I don't want you to leave me again."
"Okay, I will stay here with you. I will never leave you again. I love you son."
"Dad, the sun is sinking down the ocean."
"No it is not sinking down the ocean. The earth revolves and when the sun goes down the moon will take over."
When I grew older, I realized that God's love is like that of the sun giving light and when it goes down it will illuminate the other side ot the earth but not forgetting the other side, it casts its rays to the moon to illuminate the darker side.

This is beautiful, Samme.
I'm sorry you lost your Mom when you were so young.
that experience has made you a wonderfully giving person today.
your mother would be very proud of you.
