NO MEAT FOR A WEEK
I wouldn't recommend this to everybody, only to those who are 21 years old and over and with your doctor's knowledge and check-up. I would like to propose the first week of every month for those adults who are not vegetarians and vegans and those who would like to accept this challenge to not eat any meat during the first week of every month for 2007 and beyond. Take the challenge at least for the first week for a great start and see how you feel and by all means continue to have a meat-free diet for the rest of the month if you are able. Will you take this challenge with me? Please let me know how it goes and if you need moral support. : )
The goal hopefully and eventually is to have more people become 100% vegan and benefit the world.
Thank you and better health to all.
much love and compassion,
Samme
Here are some wonderful pods by your awesome zaadzters and friends:
VEGANIZE by Ocean

Please check out the veganism related links in Annisa's profile page.
You can post the same on your blog so we can reach more people.
I would love to read your journal of experiences and feelings while undertaking this challenge in your blog. I will visit those who made a post here who are taking the challenge.
Please let me know and invite me if you would like for me to post this in your pod if you are a pod cultivator.
Salaam Namaste

Help

This is awesome!
I'm a a Vegan already!
But to see everyone gett healthy and happy and slender for the New Year will be great!
Also, for more on Veganizing, see this
Veganize
SAMME, Ocean….I think that is a wonderful challenge to put forth to our community!
Do either of you know of a pod that may already exist…or do either of you want to create one….where vegetarians might provide healthy recipes to share with others…where vegetarians and vegans can compare their lifestyles and sociopolitical choices…where meat-eaters might venture for some insight and education?
What a marvelous idea, thank you Samwise : ) I'm going to try it. Nishtha, that might be a very helpful pod.

Samwise, this is a brilliant idea! It will not only help to spread compassion for all living beings, but also raise the vibrational levels (and consciousness hopefully) of all those who participate.
I'm already a practicing vegetarian/almost vegan, and I can personally testify to the health benefits that can be obtained as a result of this way of life.
Thanks for the reference, by the way!
Lots of love!
It's all good, bro! I will have to see how my body (still in recovery from surgery and injuries) will accept this discipline at this time. There were numerous periods of my life when I went vegetarian (1st time was back in 1974ish). I was on a total raw vegan diet for eight months five years ago or so. VERY powerful!! Couldn't sustain it though - lost close to 50 pounds during that stint! Great concept and as always, demonstrates your wonderful vision Samme!
Thanks.
I'm a vegetarian, so for the next five days I will buy and exist on a 10 pound bag of hotdogs and a jar of mustarrd and relish what I'm doing for the good of humanity. Peace, maze
great idea. i have been moving in that direction, meatless, for awhile. i live in a cold climate so people tell me youu need meat to stay warm. i am naturally losing my taste for meat and it is grossing me out and i am feeling more and more it's barbaric. i am surrounded by meat eaters at present. will be a lonely venture for me so would appreciate any support from you all. namaste. daisy flur.
I would like to acknowledge all who posted their comments, thank you. I just had another vision that came to me. I imagine a book of a compilation of people's blog entries on how they feel having a meat-free week and the foods they eat everyday during the day. It will also contain an essay on diverse topics of eco-friendly lifestyle written by you and it will also be a cookbook with your favorite recipes and original recipes. It will contain tips on how to make the transition to veganism, etc. Let's all make it a reality!

That sounds fantastic, Samme.
Count me in. This is going to be a challenge for me … but def worth it.
Since I am already vegetarian, I have decided to challenge myself to go vegan. This may be harder than it sounds, for I truly love cookies, and I have not been able to find a vegan chocolate chip cookie recipe that comes close to my cookie standards. Trivial? Not in my world!
I like this challenge & added to it this challenge: In case anyone doesn't know what the ecological footprint is; here's the quiz to find out yours. You will find this discussion at the
Voluntary Simplicity > Footprints pod
Samme, please post your entire plan here: Healing the Soul of the Planet Through conscious Eating….. PJThis is a wonderful idea! Even if people accept the challenge, but do not become vegetarian… They will still be making a change which can have a big difference.
I am a vegetarian, (actually a piscestarian - my diet sometimes includes scaled fish). However, before making this change 3 years ago, I use to consume a lot of meat. I have never regreted this change!
An Tien Le Ming,
Yes, I have been vegetarian from time to time, over the years. This challenge is drawing me back in. I do not specifically intend to become vegetarian again, but I am very excited about doing this challenge. This will be 12 weeks out of the year without meat, for our family of four. And I am sure that by doing this, I will fall into the habit of more easily feeding my family vegetarian meals at other times as well. If, over time, it feels good and right to go further, we may find ourselves doing without meat entirely. But for now, I am focussed on just doing the challenge.
The fact that it is not an all-or-nothing challenge will make it appealing to many people who would otherwise find it too difficult to make the switch.
bows,
crow
what a wonderful wealth of knowledge!!!
Bliss-sings,
Jeanne/genie
Hi SAMME! I wanted to give you a quick update. As I mentioned before, I'm already a vegetarian, but I still wanted to participate in the challenge. So, I decided to try being Vegan for a Week. It's been so easy that I'm still doing it – TWO weeks later!!! Check out the blog I just posted about it: AHA! Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies - It's a Good Thing.
Lots of love,
Annisa
Great idea to spread to the world! I am already a vegetarian but I do eat some organic dairy. If I eat eggs I make sure they are from cage-free hens.
Peace,
Galia
I came across this quote today that seemed particularly fitting to post here:
“You have just dined, and however scrupulously the slaughterhouse is concealed in the graceful distance of miles, there is complicity.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
And regarding my suggestion in my first comment to this blog, I came across an existing pod that may be a great resource for this challenge: Soul Food. There are discussion boards for recipes, reasons, resources, etc. Check it out!
